What is a high arch?

A high arch means the arch of the foot is relatively high. This is different from flat feet, where the arch is low. A high arch can feel stiffer and may not cause the same complaints in everyone. The height of the instep and the position of the toes can also differ. A photo or scan image alone therefore does not indicate which shoe or support is suitable.

Space over the foot

With a high instep, a shoe can pinch on top even if the length is correct. A different fit, more depth or a different style may fit more comfortably than simply a larger size. We also check whether the heel stays securely in place and whether the toes have enough room to move. A shoe should feel comfortable when you try it on; painful pressure is not part of that.

The combination with an insole

An extra insole takes up space. That is why we always fit the insole together with the shoe and check whether the original footbed is removable. If you already have podotherapeutic insoles, please bring them with you. During the free appointment in Almere, you can compare models and discuss whether FootBalance support is suitable. A new insole is not a mandatory part of the advice.

A new or changing high arch

Have a foot that is clearly changing, a difference between the two feet or persistent pain assessed by a medical professional. Sometimes a high arch may have an underlying cause that requires further investigation. Reduced sensation, loss of strength or sores should be discussed with a healthcare professional. We use the scan to provide suitable shoe advice and can take existing medical advice into account when choosing shoes.

Answers to your questions

Frequently asked questions

Should I buy a larger size if I have a high instep?

Not necessarily. A different length, depth or fit may be better. A shoe that is too long may slip at the heel.

Can a high arch also occur without any complaints?

Yes. Foot shape alone does not mean you need insoles. Your preferences, any complaints and the fitting are important.

Is the foot scan really free?

Yes. The 3D foot scan and personal shoe advice are free and with no purchase required. You do not have to buy insoles or shoes.

How much do the insoles cost?

A pair of FootBalance insoles costs €109.99, including fitting. The insoles are shaped to your feet in the store and are ready immediately.

How does the 4-week trial work?

You pay at the time of purchase. Not happy with the insoles? Return them to the store within 4 weeks (28 days) of purchase and you will receive a refund.

Also with your own insoles
