Pain under the heel: what could be going on?

With a heel spur, you usually feel pain under the heel, for example when you get up or start walking again after sitting for a while. The broad plantar fascia under the foot runs from the heel towards the toes. Complaints around the attachment are also called plantar fasciitis or plantar fasciitis plantaris. In everyday language, you often hear plantar fasciitis. Not every painful heel has the same cause; the name alone is therefore not a diagnosis.

When should you have your heel examined?

Contact your GP if pain increases, if you have pain after an accident, or if your heel is warm and swollen. This also applies to pain at rest or reduced sensation.
