Where is the Achilles tendon?

The Achilles tendon connects the calf muscle to the heel. With complaints, you often feel pain at the back of the heel or a few centimeters above it, for example during or after walking. The area can feel stiff or thicker. Pain under the heel does not automatically belong to the same complaint. The location of the pain helps in discussing it, but does not yet make a diagnosis.

The heel cap and fit of your shoe

A hard edge or heel cap can press exactly on a sensitive spot. We therefore look at the height and shape of the back of the shoe. The heel must at the same time fit well. We also compare walking in different models. Take the shoes you wear most during work, walking or daily use.

What role does Hafkamp play?

Our free appointment is intended for shoe and insole advice. With the 3D foot scan we look at your foot shape; with that we do not examine the tendon itself. If you have a treatment plan from a doctor or physiotherapist, take that with you. We can help find shoes that fit that. Exercise therapy and building up the load belong to the advice of your healthcare provider.

In case of sudden pain: medical help first

If the pain suddenly occurs during one movement, you feel something snap or you can no longer stand on your toes? Call your GP or GP emergency room the same day. Do not wait for an in-store appointment. Also with increasing pain, a thick warm heel or complaints that do not decrease, a medical assessment is appropriate. New shoes are no replacement for an examination of a tendon injury.
